Scholarships:

Rutherford Scholarship: Deadline May 1 each year: go to www.alis.gov.ab.ca for the application.

Reminder to all grade 12 students that your yellow Award Tracking Form must be submitted to Ms. Ballance by June 1 each year to be considered for school scholarships.  Award Tracking From.

There are many scholarships available for high school students attending post secondary education. Sturgeon School Division offers $1000 scholarships to students with an average above 80% and one bursary for a deserving student with a minimum average of 70% and the Sturgeon ATA Local No. 27 offers a scholarship for students accepted into Education programs. Sturgeon
School Division Scholarship.  $1,000 will be awarded to each Grade 12 student who has achieved an average of 80% or higher and meets the criteria; see Ms. Ballance for details. Deadline September of each year. But fill out forms to Ms. Ballance by June 1.

Sturgeon
School Division Bursary. This is a $500 bursary offered to one student at each of the Sturgeon Division High Schools who have an award average of 70% or higher and are involved in extra curricular activities at the school and in the community. It requires two recommendation letters, one being from the principal. You have to be attending a post secondary and provide a confirmation of enrollment. The deadline is September each year. But fill out application and hand in to Ms. Ballance by June 1.

Alberta Teachers’ Association Scholarships.  The Sturgeon Local of the ATA sponsors two scholarships of $400 each to students who have an average of 75% or higher and are entering the Faculty of Education.  Students may contact the counsellor for application forms.  An award is presented by the Local to the student with the highest academic standing in Grade 12.


Alexander Rutherford Scholarships
.  Scholarships to a maximum of $2,500 are awarded based on a student’s achievement in grades 10, 11 and/or 12. Deadline May 1, each year.


Governor General’s Academic Medal
.  This medal is awarded to the grade 12 student with the highest academic average in grade 11 and 12.

 

Alberta Rural Incentive Bursary $1000 if you qualify for a student loan. This bursary is available every year you are in a program.

Premier Citizenship Award - Deadline June 15. School picks one recipient for this.

Dr. Ernest and Minnie Mehl Scholarships – Deadline June 1.

Anna and John Kolesar Memorial Scholarship – Deadline July 1.

Earl and Countess of Wessex - World Championships in Athletics Scholarship Deadline October 1.

Keyera Energy-Peter J. Renton Memorial Scholarship deadline May 1 each year.

Transcripts. You will have to order an official transcript to be sent electronically to the post-secondary institutions to which you apply. Each official transcript ordered from Alberta Education costs $10.  Transcripts can be ordered on-line at: http://www.education.gov.ab.ca/learning/studentservices/
